Tropical Wedding Cake by Joanne Lima

Joanne Lima and her niece, Jaclyn Frey, made this cake for her cousin as a wedding gift. The ceremony was held under a bamboo trellis on Clearwater Beach, Florida. With wedding colors of red and yellow, it was a challenge to come up with a tropical design that was elegant, yet non-traditional.



The Cake and cake board were covered with Satin Ice Dark Chocolate Rolled Fondant. Then we made paper patterns of a hibiscus flower and philodendron leaves, and hand cut each design out of white fondant. Powdered food coloring was brushed on to add a touch of color. Bamboo borders were cut out of strips of rolled fondant (FMM Multi Ribbon cutter works great) and hand brushed with liquid food coloring.
